      Baseball, Spring Training, World Series

It’s the middle of February and New York is about to face a snow storm tonight. Can you think of Baseball already? Pitchers and catchers already report to Spring Training. Without looking things up, can you even name the team that won the World Series last year and who did they defeat? 🙂

OK, so for you die hard baseball fans, which teams are the pre-season favorites to make the playoff and win the World Series in 2007?

But next year the Chicago Cubs win it on the 100th anniversary of their last championship.

Correction Above: Chicago Cubs can’t play St. Louis in Divisional series.
        Chicago over NY Mets
        St. Louis over LA Dodgers
and then Chicago Cubs over St. Louis Cardinals.

Cubs won’t win until they break the Curse of Bonehead Merkle. If you thought the Curse of the Bambino was bad, Merkle’s curse is worse. Cubs’ll never win after what they did to him.

Can anyone explain to me why it is called the World Series?

Yes, I remember the teams involved (STL and DET). I can also remember the fact my team couldn’t throw the ball to third base to save their lives.

However, in the first round they beat the most potent hitting team ever assembled last year, the Yankees 🙂 (Sorry, Susan!)

I think I can recall – the St. Louis Cardinals won their 10th world championship after nearly suffering the biggest late-season collapse in baseball history!

Oh, yes, and from St. Louis!

The real World Series last year
was the NLCS between St. Louis and
the NY Mets, a fantastic 7 game
        series.

        The Cardinals appeared in 3
        straight WS (42-43-44) and 2
        straight WS twice (30-31) and
(67-68), but have never repeated as WS champions.

“Can anyone explain to me why it is called the World Series?”

Because it’s a championship of all the Major Leagues in the world.

Don’t forget, the Canadians have won it twice!

“Can anyone explain to me why it is called the World Series?”

Certainly. All die-hard baseball fans know the reason. Once upon a time, there were two leagues, American and National, that never played each other. A newspaper called “The World” decided to sponsor a series between the champions of the two leagues. It then became known as (you guessed it) the World Series.
