Richard Rapport Becomes Hungary’s Youngest Grandmaster
WGM Anna Rudolf takes 2nd IM norm at the Gotth’ Art Kupa
      Report by Chessdom

Gotth’ Art Kupa will forever be a beautiful memory for the 13-years old Hungarian Richard Rapport (born 25th March 1996), who shared the 2nd place in the main event, fulfilling the final norm and rating requirements for the Grandmaster title. His result could have been even more impressive as he entered the final round as tournament leader, half a point ahead of his trainer Alexander Beliavsky. But Richard suffered a defeat against the legendary GM Lajos Portisch, who caught him on the tied 2nd with same points, while Beliavsky beat the last-placed IM Tamas Fodor.

Richard is now Hungary’s youngest Grandmaster. Congratulations!

In the IM event, WGM Anna Rudolf played superb chess and rightfully took a clear first place with 6.5 points, surpassing many higher rated opponents in the process. She earns her second IM norm and 40 rating points.
