Birthday Tactic Beliavsky, Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. How should White proceed?Source: ChessToday.net Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Looks like the obvious
1.Rxe5 Ra1+
2.Kc2 RxR
3.RxQ+
what else ?
1. … QxR
2. Rd8+ LxR
3. QxQ+
Looks too easy, there must be something I missed.
I don’t think you missed anything. Sometimes the tactic itself might not look difficult; what is difficult is to have the skill to achieve such positions.

I might be missing something above, but what about 1. … Bxe5
How about:
1. Rd8+ Bxd8 (no other move)
2. Rxe5 (ultimately winning the black queen)
If 2. … Ra1+, 3. Kd2 (Bxd8 can be explored by white in later moves)
If 2. … Qxe5, 3. Qxe5+ leading to Qxg8.

Hi! 1.Rxe5 Bxe5 is not possible because of 2.Rd8 mate!
