      There were 2 tournaments: an A group for the players >2000 elo and a B group for the players <2000>

      6 minutes for white and 5 minutes for black to finish. If draws, black wins. Colours shall be determined by lot. The rest of players continue playing the Swiss tournament to decide the 9th position and over. The tiebreaks will be decided after 6th round.


      The first time, the best player placed in the open standings would have white pieces, swapping colour in any needed tiebreak game.

      * 6 minutes for white and 5 minutes for black to finish. If draws, black wins. Colours shall be determined by lot.

      Cuban GM Lazaro Bruzon Batista (2653) won the tournament with 7/9. He won his final match against Quesada Perez Yuniesky (2603) in active-chess after the first game was drawn in normal play.

      There were 8,000 euros prizes in this Open but the players who play 4 tournaments in the Catalan Circuit can also play for a total prizes of 175,000 euros in the circuit.

      There were 9 GMs and one WGM, 17 IMs and one WIM, and 11 FMs. The conditions of play were very good with a comfortable air conditioned room for the players of the two groups.

      A little team of Belgium named “Dark Knights Leuven” was there with 6 players (with 4 beginners). Badalona was just next Barcelona and the playing room only few metro steps from Barcelona’s center (about 20′).
