You’d be amazed at what I can’t figure out. Little things like how White ought to deal with 1.Rf8?? Rc1+ and mate next move.

        1.Ra5+ Rxa5 2.Qf1 Ka7 3. Qf7

        Or 1…Qxa5 2.Qc8+. Or 1…Kxa5 2.Qc3+ Ka6 3.Qc4+ Ka7 4.Qf7+ and mates.

Just your average everyday key move which throws away a piece in such a way that Black has three ways to capture it, all of which lose quickly.

        After 1Ra5+ Kxa5
2.Qf5+ is wrong, because black can escape with Kb4 and then 3.Qc5+ drops the pawn on b3, and 3.Qb5+ allows the king to go to c3.

The whole puzzle is a beautiful study in geometry. I love it.

2.Qf5? Kb4! and you can forget your mating plans. 2.Qc3+! is correct.i
