It was a great game to watch live. On ICC everyone really seemed to have a good time. This was an extraordinary game to get the opportunity to watch.
Henrik did a nice job of holding his own against someone rated so much higher than him. He even gives a couple of clever checks getting a rook back before having to resign.
It seemed that Magnus just had a more finely tuned feel for the board. Henrik plays good chess. But Magnus has a better feel for the positions.
I really enjoyed the game and I love your headline. Keep up the great blog Susan. There is noting on the internet as good as this site.

Ingrid Øen Carlsen (1059 NOR) is also playing and she won today also. so the Carlsens gained 2 points today.
Pretty cool news. I wish I had known this sooner to get it posted sooner. but I just learned it now.
I would like to inform the readers of this blog, that Norwegian ratings are very underestimated. A Norwegian player with a NOR-rating of 1800 can easily match a player with an USCF-rating of about 1950 – 2050.
Well USCF ratings are too inflated compared to any other national or international ratings..
(compare top US players with their FIde ratings e.g.)
I think ‘inflation’ is unavoidable in any ELO-based scheme. Isn’t it about 4% per annum for FIDE ELO.
Maybe USCF has a different ELO calculation.
Obviously, if more games are played per year in an ‘ELO community’ than in another community, all other things being equal, the inflation will be higher. I’d expect that with the SSDF ELO, which was ‘knocked back’ 100 points some years ago to get better alignment with FIDE ELO.
Of course, poorer players tend to leave sooner, which also inflates the ELO figures.
