Interesting, the GM tournament is held at a Casino, but yet the 1st place prize is only 1,500 euros.
Its nice to see a casino taking interest in chess, but still there is just not enough money in chess to make a living, but poker players get all the cash and glory.
As for me i am an intermediate chess player that plays for money. I would like to see more people playing for money so that there will then be a market for chess, then the chess GMs will get the respect for being the highest of cerebral champions, they deserve it.

Holden Hernandez 3 times winner of Montcada open? I don’t think Holden has even played there… You can check at http://www.chess-results.com

Prizes look miserable for such an important tournament, I agree with casual that it’s a pity.

It seems Hernandez is not Montcada winner. Prizes are not high but it seems to me that the players get paid succulent fixed amounts. They all are participating and it is a fact. As they are actually world class players and none of these 10 would be so fool to play otherwise, I believe there is something there.
