      Cheparinov takes the trophy in Politiken Cup

      Cheparinov, HECToR, Ivan Sokolov, Politiken Cup

      The 2012 Politiken Cup took place from 28th July to 5th August at the Konventum Lo-Skolen in Helsingør, Denmark.

      The popular open tournament attracted 290 participants from 24 countries, including 25 Grandmasters and 9 International Masters. The tournament was played as a 10-round Swiss event.

      Grandmasters Ivan Cheparinov (Bulgaria), Ivan Sokolov (Netherlands) and Jonny Hector (Sweden) shared the first place with 8 points each. Cheperinov takes the winner’s trophy on best tie-break score.

      Top seeded players Vladimir Malakhov and Alexey Dreev finished with 7.5 points to share the 4th place. Full standings bellow.

      There were 20 prizes and the winner is awarded 20.000 DKK (2700 EUR). In addition, 4700 EUR is allocated for the special elo prizes.

      The official website reports the good news that the sponsorship for the Politiken Cup has been secured until the year 2014.
