Asian Countries Chess Academy to Be Established in Iran
      Fars News Agency

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Chess Federation said here Friday International Chess Federation (FIDE) has primarily agreed on the establishment of Asian Countries Chess Academy in Iran.

According to the Islamic republic news agency, Mohammad Ebrahim Maddahi announced the news at the closing ceremony of the Women’s Contests of the Fajr Chess Match, reiterating, “The Iranian Chess Federation’s efforts aimed at gaining the permit for the establishment of the 25 member country Asian Chess Academy in Iran are still going on.”

Pointing out that the IRI Chess Federation is quit optimistic that its efforts in that regard would bear fruit, he added, “Among the objectives behind the establishment of that academy there is transfer of the experience of the top Iranian chess players and chess masters to the Asian countries and vise versa and general advancement of this sport at the old continent.”

Pointing out that Iran currently ranks 3rd next to India and China in this field in Asia, Maddahi said, “fortunately, the Iranian chess players’ activities are not restricted to the games they play in Asia, as they have high positions at the international scene, as well.

He added, “The high self confidence among our country’s chess players is one of the important factors leading to the advancement of this sport during the recent years in Iran, adding, “The awe inspiring victory of Ehsan Qa’em-Maqami in contest against the Russian top chess master and former world champion Gary Kasparov (I think the author meant Karpov) is strong proof for the claim.”

I wonder where the Iranian chess federation is getting the money for this endeavor. Is it funded by other Asian chess federations as well or is this Iranian only?
