One Charlottesville instructor is teaching life-long lessons through the game of chess.
The Playing ACES Chess Club in Charlottesville hosted a learning session at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library. Kids of all ages came out to better their skills at chess and learn lessons they can take with them in life.
One instructor said he believes chess can benefit people in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.
“All of those fields require both creativity and critical thinking, and chess brings the beauty of both of those in one game,” said Nate Szejniuk, founder of Playing ACES. “You know, if the kids loves football, if they love soccer, if they love swimming, it doesn’t make a difference. You can tie chess to so many things if you are creative about it.”
Kids also watched the movie Searching for Bobby Fisher about the life of the first American to win a world chess title.
