      Chess tournaments for your calendar

      The Spanish version of Chessdom is closely following current and upcoming events in the Spanish and Latin chess world. Here are some of the most important upcoming events. Among them are the ongoing closed tournament Magistral Edith Soppe, the coming Capablanca Memorial, San Sebastian, Andorra Open, the 38th Roda tournament, and Campeonato Europeo Femenino de ajedrez.

      XXXV Open Internacional de Ajedrez Ciudad de San Sebastian

      The XXXV edition of the tournament will take place March 31 – April 7. With a nice prize fund and a txapela for the winner, the traditional event is expected to collect strong participation from the local and international community. The event is played at Paseo de Anoeta 20 (Frontón Karmelo Balda), Donostia – San Sebastián.

      Capablanca Memorial 2012
      The 2012 Capablanca Memorial will have Vassily Ivanchuk as top participant in the Elite Group. Two of his main competitors are the local Cuba stars GM Leinier Domínguez and GM Lázaro Bruzón.
      Parallel to the Elite Group, a Premier tournament will take place, which will be a closed event as well.

      38th Roda tournament
      The 38th Roda tournament will take place April 4-8. Organized by Club de Ajedrez de La Roda, the event will have as top participant GM Julio Granda Zuniga. The total prize fund is 11 000 eur.

      Campeonato Europeo Femenino de ajedrez (ongoing)
      Now we are in the 3rd round of Campeonato Europeo Femenino 2012. Viktorija Cmilyte, Cristina-Adela Foisor, and Marie Sebag are leading the tournament.

      Abierto de Ajedrez de Andorra
      The 30th edition of Andorra Open will take place 21-29 July in Hotel Sant Gothard, Ctra. d’Arinsal s/n. Erts (La Massana), Andorra. With a prize fund of 10 500 eur and traditionally strong participation, it will be one of the top opens of the season.

      Torneo Magistral Edith Soppe 2012
      Torneo Magistral Edith Soppe 2012 takes place 2-8 March. It is a double round robin and top seeded is the Bolivian GM Osvaldo Zambrana. Four of the best Argentinian female players are looking for their norms in the event. So far the surprising leader is GM Claudia Amura with 3,5/4.
