1. Bc8! White threatens mate via Q:b7 or B:b7 depending on how White tries to defend, and 1…R:c8 leads to a back rank mate.
I can’t believe I didn’t see that. I knew I had to be missing something more imaginative than the winning, but pedestrian 1.Rb5.
Yeah, I specialize in weird moves. Probably my chess would improve if I got better at looking for normal moves.
