When I started visiting this blog I could rarely solve a puzzle. Now I am able to solve many of them.

Either I have improved, or the puzzles have become easier. 🙂

          Anup,

Probably a mixture of the two explanations. Since the move to the new site, the puzzles are easier, and the repetition of them has increased in frequency. At one time, Susan wouldn’t repeat a puzzle at a interval under at least a year, but now they are returning every few weeks, and more than twice.

        Black has 2 choices.
        (1) Whether to play 2…. Bd4 or not
(2)Whether to play 4…. Qg8 or 4….. Qf8. Of course one more choice
        (3) 3…. Qf6 or 3…. Qg7
        Abundance of choices.

I have looked at it off and on all day, and I see no decisive tactic. What am I missing?

        1.Qxf5 loses to 1…. Qb7+ followed by 2…. Qxc8

After the above comment, off the computer and off the board I was wondering whether I had erred in 1.Qxf5 Qb7+ followed by Qxc8 since the danger to black K on the long diagonal is still there and taking guard away from g7 by Q would be suicidal. However when I opened the puzzle again I observed that it is not a mistake.
1.Qxf5 Qb7+ 2.Kh3 (previously I had not cared where white K would go)Qxc8 would be a pin on white Q and black is saved.

Like a chameleon I am changing my opinion again. 1.Qxf5 Qb7+ is losing for black because of 2.Bd5 Now 2… Qxc8 leads to 3.Qd5+ Rf6 4.Qxf6# Instead 4….. Bc5 may be good for black.
