Chess Ratings, Cuba, FIDE, Leinier Dominguez

Cuban Leinier Dominguez Heads Chess Ranking in the Americas
      Cuba Headlines

Cuban Grand Master Leinier Dominguez heads the ranking of chess players in the American continent with 2, 721 ELO points, four more than the previous leader, the U.S Gata Kamsky.

Now the Caribbean player occupies the place 23 in the world ranking of the FIDE, fact that demonstrates his continuous ascent to be among best 31 chess players in the planet.

Undoubtedly, Leinier’s performance in the strong tournaments Corus, in the Dutch city of Wijk ann Zee and in the world strongest competition, held in Spanish city of Linares, were the proper scenarios for his consolidation on the top.

Famed players are behind the Cuban, such as the Ukrainian Sergey Karjakin, champion in the last tournament of Corus (2, 721); the Russians Evgueny Alekseev (2, 716), Vladimir Malakhov (2, 709) and Sergei Rublekvsky (2, 702), the English Michael Adams (2, 703) and the Hungarian Judit Polgar (2 693).

The ranking of the FIDE is headed by the Bulgarian Vesselin Topalov, with 2, 812 points, the world champion from India Viswanathan Anand (2, 783), the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (2, 770), the Russian Vladimir Kramnik (2, 759), the Azerbaijani Teimour Radjabov (2 756), the Armenian Levon Aronian (2, 754), the Russian Dmitry Jakovenko (2, 753) and Alexander Morozevich (2, 751); the Hungarian Peter Leko (2, 751) and the also Russian Alexander Grischuk (2, 748).

Yeah he is slaughtering the American, Kamsky. Perhaps Kamsky is spending too much time eating hot dogs at 4th of July celebrations.

And why is Nakamura above 2700 on the FIDE list but but not on the Live list?

Dude, the live list is “live” whereas the FIDE list is only published on a quarterly basis.

Also, your remarks on Kamsky are ridiculous. I am not a fan of his either but this is just stupid.

Other than that: why does the article praise Dominguez’ performance at Linares? He did not manage to win a single game…

Well, dude, when the two lists synchronize in time they ought to agree, shouldn’t they? Duh.

Anon @ 12:22 what are you talking about? These lists do not synchronize, they never will.

The FIDE list includes only those tournaments that finished well before their official deadline whereas the live list considers every single game individually.

So please think first before “duhing” remarks of other commentators that obviously know better than you what’s going on.

Dudes, the live list includes games from unfinished events – particularly team events. Apparently Nakamura didn’t do that well in various leagues – hence his live rating is (again) below 2700 and therefore not mentioned.

Lest we forget, Dominguez has been pretty impressive this year — such his 7/13 at Wijk aan Zee, same score as Magnus Carlsen, and including wins over Aronian and Morozevich. He has clearly overtaken Bruzon and others in the Western Hemisphere, and I hope/expect that he will continue to get invitations to some of the top tournaments.

Nakamura’s results are even less consistent that Mr. Inconsistency himself, Ivanchuk. Sometimes TPR 2900, sometimes 2500.
