Ugandan teenager Elijah Emojong has obtained the FIDE Master (FM) title. Emojong’s FM honour follows a flawless display at Zone 4.2 Africa Chess Championship that took place from May 19-29 in Khartoum.

Emojong registered a 55 percent score in the zonal event and went on to perform equally well in the Africa Individual Chess Championship held in Maputo, Mozambique, from June 3-14, 2011. His impressive performance earned him the prestigious FM title and an international rating of 2,156, which makes him the fifth highest active Ugandan chess player.

“Emojong has been nominated for an award of the FIDE Master title due to his impressive performance,” Irina Bebikova, a senior official of the Elista FIDE office, confirmed to the Uganda Chess Federation on Monday. He is the third FIDE Master in Uganda after United Kingdom-based Kawuma brothers Stephen and Moses.
