      European Amateur Chess Championship concluded in Nis

      European Amateur Chess Championship

      The European Amateur Chess Championship was held in excellent conditions from 9-17th June at the Tami Residence in Nis, Serbia.

      The Championship, organized by the Chess Federation of City of Nis and under the auspices of European Chess Union, consisted of three different rating categories: 0-1699, 1700-1999 and 2000-2300.

      The champion of the strongest category (2000-2300) is Buyukasik Diyap (TUR 2261) with 7.5 points. He is the sole winner a whole point ahead of Biljanic Ljubomir (SRB 2231) who took the second place with 6.5 points, and Livaja Mario (SRB 2254) who claimed the bronze medal with 6 points on the tiebreak since there were four more players with the same score.

      The title of European Woman Amateur Championship in the strongest category went to Okuyaz Duru (TUR 2017) who finished the Championship with 5 points.

      In category 1700-1999 another Turkish player took the first place. Karaoglan Doruk (TUR 1928) finished sole on the top of the list with 7.5 points. Stojkovic Zoran (SRB 1956) finished second with 7 points, and the third place took Nagy Laszlo (GER 1923) with 6.5 points.

      The best woman in this category is Acarbay Algi (TUR 1785) with 6 points.

      In category 0-1699 five players tied for the first place all with score of 6.5 points, but according the tiebreak criteria the title of European Amateur Champion went to Ciric Pavle (SRB 1605), second place went to Alumert Orkun Efe (TUR 1454) and the third place took Stevanovic Jovan (SRB 1566).

      Two girls shared the first place in this category, each with 6 points, but according to the tiebreak criteria, Dimitrijevic Andjela (SRB 1624) finished first and Grabcheva Natalia (ECX 1599) second. The third place went to Mikheeva Galina (RUS 1545) with 5 points.
