      GM Becerra qualified for the US Championship!

      Becerra, Florida, ICC, Miami, US Championship


      Today in the final leg of the 2007 ICC State Champions Qualifier (“Champion of Champions” held in collaboration with the US Chess Federation www.uschess.org ) GM Julio Becerra (2601) The Florida State Champion beat NM Xiao Cheng of Georgia.

      The first game a Caro-Kann advance variation was a draw beautifully played by Cheng. Becerra, however, ground Cheng down in the second game, a Sicilian resulting a rook and pawns ending thereby winning the match 1.5-.5

      All games of the Semi-Finals and Final had USCF TD’s onsite and were played in chess clubs and chess centers such as the US Chess Hall of Fame, the Atlanta Chess center and Miami International Chess Academy.

        Becerra is a good chess player and is more than worthy opponent for the US Championship. He plays very well for Miami team chess.

        Nice to see him win.
