      GM Erwin L’Ami wins Chefchaouen Festival

      L'Ami, Morocco


      The 13th edition of the International Chess Festival Chefchaouen, Morocco took place on 1-5th September 2014 in Chefchaouen, a city in northwest Morocco, famous for its buildings in shades of blue.

      The festival consisted of a 9-round Swiss Open and a 13-round Marathon blitz, both won by GM Erwin L’Ami from the Netherlands.

      L’Ami emerged a clear winner in the Open tournament with 8,5 points, drawing only against the runner-up GM Sergey Kasparov.

      The latter took the silver on 7,5 points, while third place was shared by Serbian GM Aleksa Strikovic, IM Mokliss El Adnani (Morocco), IM Ali Sebbar (Morocco), GM Fabien Libiszewski (France) and IM Anastasia Savina (Russia) on 7 points each.

      The Marathon Blitz tournament was also topped by L’Ami on 11,5/13 points, followed by GM Aleksa Strikovic (11/13) and IM Mokliss El Adnani (10/13) and GM Sergey Kasparov (10/13).

      The Festival was closed by a double nocturnal simultaneous exhibition given by GM Erwin L’Ami and IM Anastasia Savina.

      L’Ami met 30 male players, while the best woman in the tournament faced 30 female players.
