      GM Starostis wins 5th International Tournament Ciutat de Palma

      The 5th International Chess Tournament Ciutat de Palma was taking place from January 9th to January 16th, 2016, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

      The event was a 9-round Swiss FIDE open tournament, valid for international rating and norms.

      A total of 70 players from 12 different countries competed for the top prize in the amount of 1,000 EUR.

      Latvian GM Ilmars Starostits clinched the title on a superior tie-break score after tie for the first place with Spaniard IM Jonathan Alonso Moyano. Both players scored 7/9 points.

      The third place was shared in a four-way tie by GM Aloyzas Kveinys (Lithuania), FM Julio Javier Alonso Bouza (Cuba), GM Felix Levin (Germany) and WIM Samomeja Zaksaite (Lithuania) at 6.5 points each.
