World chess body quashes complaint against Humpy
By Vijay Tagore, Bangalore Mirror Bureau | Sep 12, 2015, 04.00 AM IST

Mumbai: The Ethics Commission of the World Chess Federation (Fide) has rejected a complaint against Koneru Humpy (in pic) saying the complainant, the Delhi Chess Association (DCA), has no locus standi to do so. The DCA had taken the matter to the Fide level following her walkout from the Commonwealth Chess Championship. The championship was held in the national capital in the last week of June this year.

Humpy had pulled out of the championship after her fourth round game was declared lost on clock at a time when she was in a superior position. The DCA had later taken the matter to the Ethics Commission stating she withdrew from the event “without a valid reason and making unjust accusations against the chief arbiter.” The DCA had further contended that the Humpy’s act caused damage to its reputation and loss of sponsorship.
But the commission said DCA is not a member of the Fide and lacks the capacity to represent the general interest of the world chess body. It said the commission “would have entertained a complaint if it was submitted by the Commonwealth Chess Association (CCA), All-India Chess Federation (AICF) or by the chief arbiter” personally.
