      Local Chess IM Gets 2nd Norm

      Bandar Seri Begawan – Brunei player FIDE Master Yee Soon Wei with FIDE Rating 2285 got his International Master 2nd norm after coming second with six points from nine games in the Brunei 2011 International Master Tournament, which ended last Thursday.

      IM Khamrakulov Dzhurabek from Uzbekistan FIDE Rating 2479 won the tournament with 6.5 points.

      GM Nguyen Anh Dung with FIDE rating 2508, IM Oliver Barbosa from Philippines with FIDE rating 2461, and Asia under-14 runner-up Jahongir Vakhidov from Uzbekistan with FIDE rating 2295 also got six points.

      IM Nguyen Van Huey from Vietnam with FIDE rating 2449 with 5.5 points and IM Yap Kim Steven from Philippine with FIDE rating 2395, scored five points from nine games.

      The Brunei IM tournament is fully sanctioned by FIDE, supported by Youth and Sport Department and organised by Brunei Chess Federation.

      Ten players from four countries – two from Vietnam, two from Philippines, two from Uzbekistan and four from Brunei – participated in the tournament held in preparation for the SEA Games 2011.
