I want to be the strongest grandmaster – Kayonde

CHESS International Master Andrew Kayonde says the World Chess Olympiads in Baku Azeribajan have motivated him to become a chess grandmaster.
In an interview, Kayonde, the 2016 Zambia national chess champion and Africa’s number two International Master said the Baku experience was confirmation that he would soon make a very strong grand master.
“This was especially after beating the tough grand from Montenegro who is rated many points above me. I enjoyed the tournament,” Kayonde said.
He said he would work at increasing his rating to 2,500 and attain the GM title.
“I want to be the strongest black grandmaster by the time we are playing the next Olympiad in 2018,” Kayonde said.
He encouraged chess fans to support him and other members of the national team.
Kayonde said chess fans should look forward to the future with optimism because Zambia would soon produce a grand master.

In Zambia, chess is not only bringing in the most medals, but it has proven to enhance people’s thinking and way of life. Imagine the impact that the first serious corporate sponsor will have.
