      Land of the Sky XXVII in Asheville, North Carolina

      Asheville, North Carolina


      Land of the Sky XXVII is set to take place on 24-26th January at the Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville, One Resort Dr, in Asheville, North Carolina 28806.

      The event will have four sections: Open, Asheville, Buncombe, U12. All sections will be played over five rounds of Swiss system and Open will be rated with FIDE.

      The prize fund is projected at $20,000 based on 320 paid entries. $11,000 is minimum, while in the Open section 2/3 of the prizes are guaranteed.

      Open section prizes: $2,400, $1,200, $600, $500, $400; U2300 – $600, $300.

      Last year winner Sergey Kudrin will be back to defend the title. Other Grandmasters in the field are Gregory Kaidanov, and Alonso Zapata.

      Additional events include Chess960 and Blitz tournaments, Lectures and Grandmaster Simuls.
