      Land of the Sky XXVIII in North Carolina

      Land of the Sky XXVIII open chess tournament was held from 23-25th January at the Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville, One Resort Dr., in Asheville, North Carolina, USA.

      The event had four sections: Open (FIDE rated), Asheville (FIDE rated, Under 2200), Buncombe (Under 1700) and U12 (U1200). The playing format was 5-round Swiss with time control 40/120, SD/30, d5.

      The main section had 32 participants. Grandmasters Elshan Moradiabadi and Alexander Ivanov shared the first place to win $1200 each.

      The projected prize fund was $14,000 based on 225 entries, with $9,000 guaranteed.

      Open section final standings:

      1-2. GM ELSHAN MORADIABADI IRI 2642 and GM ALEXANDER IVANOV MA 2602 – 4,0
      3-8. GM GREGORY KAIDANOV KY 2643, GM BENJAMIN FINEGOLD MO 2592, GM SERGEY KUDRIN CT 2584, IM JUSTIN SARKAR NY 2441, FM DANIEL GUREVICH GA 2420 and MICHAEL PATRICK CORALLO GA 2366 – 3,5
      9-12. DAMIR STUDEN GA 2361, DOMINIQUE MYERS NC 2219, TIANQI WANG NC 2207 and ARTHUR GUO GA 1996 – 3,0 etc
