      Loek Van Wely wins Petrov Memorial on tie-break

      The Latvian Chess Federation held the 5th Vladimir Petrov Memorial on 5-6th March, 2016, at the Jurmala City museum in Jurmala, Latvia.

      The main Tournament A was a 12-round Swiss with the time control 15′+5” and 129 players in the field.

      Grandmasters Loek Van Wely, Vassily Ivanchuk, Alexander Shabalov and Arturs Neiksans shared the first place with 9,0/12 points each. Van Wely tok the winner’s trophy and top prize of 1420 EUR on best tie-break.

      The total prize fund was 15200 EUR.

      Tournament B was reserved for players rated 1800-2349. After 11 round of play NM Dmitrijs Tokranovs (LAT 2233) emerged convincing winner with 9,0 points, leaving the nearest followers a full point behind.

      Tournament C was reserved for players rated under 1800. U10 star Gleb Pidluznij (LTU 1609) crushed the opposition to win the section with 9,5 points. Full standings of all tournaments below.

      The Blitz Tournament was held on 4th March at the Amber Beach resort (Jaunkemeri). Ukrainian junior GM Olexandr Bortnyk won this event.
