GM Luke McShane wins London Chess Classic Super RapidPlay, which was held over the weekend alongside the main tournament, scoring a near perfect 9.5/10 points.

The tournament featured 368 players from 47 different countries, with 226 players from the English federation.

Starting as 12th seeded, McShane finished a full point ahead of second placed GM Hrant Melkumyan and 1.5 ahead of bronze medalist after tiebreakers GM Alex Lenderman. First seed GM Matthew Saddler finished in 18th place with 7 out of 10 points.

London Chess Classic Super RapidPlay is part of the London Chess Classic, which ended yesterday after anintense final playoffs with GM Magnus Carlsen  settling the three way tie between Anish Giri and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.

After Lagrave won over Giri in an exciting Armageddon round, the French GM faced Carlsen in a match for LCC title and possibly the Grand Chess Tour overall champion title. Carlsen defeated Vachier-Lagrave with 1.5 points to 0.5 points in two rapid games and won both titles.
