      MIAMI DADE COLLEGE
MDC chess team again in Final Four

      Miami Herald Staff Report

Miami Dade College’s chess team has moved into the Final Four tournament for the sixth straight year after placing fourth in the Pan American competition which the college hosted Dec. 26-30.

”We had a very tough match against the University of Texas at Dallas, one of the best teams in the country, but were able to get a draw which secured us a fourth place finish,” said Rene Garcia, the chess team’s advisor and captain and a grandmaster-elect.

MDC lost one match to the University of Maryland at Baltimore County, had two draws and three wins for four points.

New York University is the other top finisher at the Pan American and qualifier for the Final Four slated for this spring.
