U.S. News Kicks Off STEM Solutions Summit in Dallas

      By Jason Koebler
      June 27, 2012

U.S. News & World Report has spent the past year highlighting the complex science, technology, engineering, and math education problem in the United States, in which a shortage of qualified tech workers has caused America to fall behind economically. Despite a high unemployment rate nationally, thousands of technology jobs have gone unfilled because companies can’t find workers to hire.

      It’s time for solutions.

Starting Wednesday, U.S. News and partners Innovate + Educate, and STEMconnector will host U.S. News STEM Solutions, a three-day summit in Dallas that will bring together politicians, business executives, education experts, and thought leaders in an effort to solve the crisis. This blog will bring you wall-to-wall coverage of the 30 break-out sessions as they happen and will also feature coverage of keynote speeches from leaders such as former NBA superstar Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, FIRST founder Dean Kamen, U.S. News Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Mortimer Zuckerman, and many more.

STEM Innovators in Arts & Entertainment

Debbie Adler Myers, EVP and General Manager, Science Channel
Allyson Peerman, Corporate Vice President, Public Affairs, AMD and President, AMD Foundation
Susan Polgar, Director of SPICE and Head Coach of Chess Team, Webster University
Captain Russell D. Shilling, PhD, USN, Program Manager, Information Innovations Office, DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency)
Joseph Piro, PhD, Curriculum & Instruction, Long Island University, CW Post Campus, School of Education (moderator)
