      One of my chess sets

      Chess Collectors International, Chess Set

Since I joined the CCI (Chess Collectors International) last week, I began looking into a number of rare or unique chess sets. This is one of my sets. Even though it is not that large, it is quite heavy.

Sorry, that link is too long, let’s try a tiny URL:

This may be the type of set which could rival the Staunton pattern. Why not have discs as pieces with images like the chess fonts?

Now let’s make it so it is clickable. For those that don’t know how to do that you just type in the following.

        <a href=”http://tinyurl.com/5sr6rb”>http://tinyurl.com/5sr6rb</a&gt;

and it will give you this…

That is very nice. I wish you could have attended the CCI convention in Boca Raton last week. They had many nice sets there. I plan to go to the next CCI convention at Cambridge University.

        Best wishes,

        Thanks Susan

I had hoped to be able to make it to the CCI convention, and Floyd asked if I could display some sets but unfortunately I couldn’t make it.

On Sunday I’m heading over to London for… the chess auction on Tuesday at Bonham’s auction house! Lots of nice chess sets, antique and otherwise.

That sounds great! Please feel free to post the links to the new sets. There are a number of CCI members following this blog and I am sure they would love to see them.

        Best wishes,
        Susan Polgar

I thought it would be worthwhile to post one very important point — those two sets are antique ivory, 150-200 years old, imported legally and ethically with CITES approval through U.S. Customs.

Interested people can find lots of pertinent information at http://www.cites.org, a worldwide organization with hundreds of member nations (including the U.S.) whose mission is to prevent illegal and unethical trafficking of ivory and similar animal/vegetable substances.

I like vegetable substances. I slather them all over myself every morning during my embarassing exercises I do in my living room.

Then I let my pet rabbits out of their electrified cages and let them eat the vegetables off of me while I scream,”I am a carrot! I’m a carrot! Eat me you bad bunnies!”

Then I get dressed to go work as a corporate executive in charge of a chess federation…

Just another normal day for me.

Hi Jon. I’ve been envying your “50th Jaques” set of pieces lately, but you always have some sweet candy. I talked to you a few years ago on ICC about your sets but you probably don’t remember. You’ve haven’t slacked a bit.

Very nice! Never thought of the possibility to use stones and to paint the pieces on them.
