Alex Baburin, Chess auction, Chess Today

Online Chess Auction by GM Alex Baburin

I invite Chess Today readers to visit our online auction concluding today from 19:01 London time. Even if you don’t collect chess books, this visit could be quite interesting! You can look up books in different categories, i.e. ‘Chess Composition’, ‘Game Collections’, etc.

There are 111 lots in total – from single Chess Informant and British Chess Magazine volumes to rare early 19th century books. On offer is a great selection of tournament books (including Zurich 1953 by Najdorf, signed by him), as well as some rare Russian magazines from the 1920, a few books on chess composition, several old books on openings and a few reference books (i.e. books by Betts and Sakharov). There is also one old chess clock on sale.

Usually bidding is heaviest at the “last minute”, but there have been well over 150 bids already, which shows that there is a strong interest among chess collectors, when desirable items are on sale. Bidding will be closing from lot 1 to 111 (though they may not be displayed in that order online).

Once there are 3 or 5 minutes left before closing, the listing of that lot turns red. This should help you to see what is about to go. Each lot will be closing one minute after the previous – but that changes if there are bids in the last 3-5 minutes – we have a time increment added, so if two people are interested in the same lot, they don’t run out of time. Don’t forget to refresh/reload web pages regularly to make sure you see the latest situation!

If you are interested to bid at this auction, you need to be a registered user. Registration is easy, but it may be a while before you receive your password (I need to forward it to you). If you register, dropping a message to ababurin@iol.ie won’t hurt!
