      Pan Am Championship in Miami

Miami Dade, Pan Am, Renier Gonzalez

      News from Miami Dade College
Chess team to host regional tournament
Posted on Thu, Dec. 20, 2007

For the second time in two years, Miami Dade College’s chess team, led by captain Renier Gonzalez, will host the Pan American Intercollegiate Chess Tournament, scheduled for Dec. 27-30.

Teams expected to participate include powerhouses like the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Maryland at Baltimore County, as well as Yale, John Hopkins, Stanford and the University of Chicago, along with teams from Canada and the Caribbean.P

The tournament is a prelude to the Final Four of Chess, often referred to as the World Series of Collegiate Chess. For the past five years, the MDC team has placed third in the championship.

”My first goal is to qualify for the Final Four. Then I want to improve our third-place standing,” said Rene Garcia, MDC’s team advisor.

Besides Gonzalez, who is on the way to attaining Grand Master ranking, other MDC players include Liulia Cardona, who was the second best-female chess player in Cuba before coming to the United States a year ago, Charles Galofre and Javier Gonzalez.

The obvious question is – are TTU taking part?

I’m tired of hearing that Liulia Cardona was the second-best chess female player in Cuba.
I have statistics that prove her wrong.
In a recent interview in Miami she lied about being the first-best chess female player in Cuba.
There are more cuban female players with higher categories and ELO like:
        Vivian Ramon
        Maritza Arribas
        Sulennis Pena
        Lisandra Otero
        and many others.

Liulia ,the poor girl, lives in a fantastic world, where she is the best chess female in Cuba, but only in her imagination.
She is looking for sponsor, but she has to stop lying because nobody believe in someone like her.

It is true! When Liulia left Cuba she was ranked the second female. Her rating was 2289 and the first female was Sulennis Pina with 2319. It is amazing how can exist a person doesn’t like Liulia. She is the prettiest woman chess player in the country, and she is nice, smart, and an excellent chess player and coach. It is not true about the interview in Miami because she doesn’t live there.
Also, she is teaching chess with an excellent English.

If you give her half a chance, Liulia will charm you beyond words and dazzle you with her masterful, aggressive apporoach to chess –and life! I haven’t seen the other players, but she is without question a knockout. Let her flash a single smile, and she will knock you out of your socks! I know what I’m saying!
