I didn’t know they even play chess. I guess FIDE is doing a good job spreading chess.

It’s nice that Susan promotes all events while CLO posted nothing about the SP National Open in Brownsville which the SPF gave out 9 laptops and over $100,000 in scholarships, cash and chess prizes. Not even one bleep about it by the USCF even though this was the official qualifier for a USCF national event. But you won’t hear honest Laughterty and convicted felon Sloani talking about it.

Is this the same KCF Michael Khodarkovsky as in this article http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/21/crosswords/chess/21chess.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=Michael+Khodarkovsky+chess&st=nyt&oref=slogin who claimed on the KCF website that he’s an IM?

According to a New York Times article from 2006, http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/12/nyregion/12compete.html?_r=2&ref=nyregion&oref=slogin&oref=slogin, Medina was then a student at DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx and grew up in the South Bronx. Elizabeth Vicary is the coach at I.S. 318 in Brooklyn. At some point Maurice Ashley was mentoring Parilla but I don’t know if he still is. Congratulations to Medina for winning the scholarship to UT Dallas. Well done!

(By the way, to the anonymous and psedonymous posters, please take your petty political disputes to another thread. Some of us are just plain happy at the thought that chess (and a lot of hard work) can help a young woman travel from the South Bronx to University of Texas at Dallas.)
