ABOUT 150 children from Indian schools in Qatar are contesting for honours in the inter-school chess tournament, being organised by Skills Development Centre, in New Salata.
The two-day tournament plays on the round-robin-better progression format, the organisers said yesterday.
The competitions will conclude this evening. At least eight rounds will be played to decide the winners in each category. The games are simultaneously being played on 50 tables.
The tourney has attracted 80 entries in the under-10 years, about 50 in the 10-13 age group and 20 in the 13-16 age group.
The organisers said yesterday that they intended to make it an annual affair in view of the overwhelming response from children of the Indian and other expatriate communities.
