      Chess Club hosts match

      Quincy, IL —

      The Quincy Chess Club hosted a team chess match against the Tri-State Chess Club of Keokuk on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Home.

      Keokuk sprinted to an early 3-1 lead, but Quincy responded to tie the match. In the closing moments of the match, Keokuk held a commanding 11-8 lead, but Quincy won three games in a row to tie the match again.

      Quincy was winning the decisive last game but lost in time pressure. Keokuk prevailed in the close match 12 games to 11.

      Participants for the Quincy Chess Club were Gary Blickhan, John Eaton, Ken Griffin, Mark Stover and Ivan Town of Quincy and Norm Grubb of Hannibal. Participants for the Tri-State Chess Club were Sam Naylor of Carthage and Stan Felgar, Joe Rose and Jason Sparrow of Keokuk.

      The Quincy Chess Club meets from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays at the Good Samaritan Home. For further information, call Gary Blickhan at (217) 222-0304.
