      Radjabov advances to next step of WC cycle

      Azerbaijani Teymur Rajabov to compete for world chess crown

      The Grand prix in chess contest has ended in Astrakhan.

      According to News.Az, by results of 13 rounds Azerbaijani grandmaster Teymur Rajabov shared the 2-6th places and got the right to compete for the world chess crown.

      The second participant of the candidate contest for the world champion title (the first was gained by Armenian Levon Aronyan) was defined in the last round. Azerbaijani grandmasters Teymur Rajabov and Vugar Hashimov, as well as Chinese Van Yue had the chance to win.

      Hashimov lost to Hungarian Peter Leko, while Rajabov played a draw with Van Yue with white figures which satisfied our chess player. He shared the 2-6th places with 7 points and received 116 rating points thanks to which he took the second place. His final score is 419.3 points.

      Returning to the contest in Astrakhan, we would also like to note that Shahriyar Mammadyarov played a draw with Vasili Ivanchuk in the last round and shared the 2-6th places with 7 points. Vugar Hashimov shared the 7-9 places with 6.5 points. Meanwhile, Ukrainian chess player Pavel Elyanov won the Astrakhan Grand Prix with 8 points.

        Didn’t I say it? He’s a threat for sure!
        Vastly overlooked (Because of Carlsen) but he’s a real threat for sure. Good for him! Its nice that more than just Carlsen is coming to the top. KarJakin also ….those three are the future of chess.

        Let’s face it. Whosoever wins the candidates is sure to be a very tough opponent vs Anand. So let Rajdabov win the candidates first! In my opinion it will be either Carlsen or Aronian. And Aronian is clearly better than Rajdabov and clearly has more chances of defeating Anand.
