      Reggio Emilia round 5 report

      Italy, Reggio Emilia

      Sunday January 2nd 2011
      Fifth round

Yesterday Moro had to recovered his re-schedule game against Navara (not played on the 27th due to the heavy snow that caused the Moscow’s airport to be closed) and won a beautiful game that allowed him to engage the large group of followers with two points. Today the Russian GM had to play the leader Vallejo, a victory would re-open his possibility to fight for first place. The opening seems to surprise the Spanish GM that already spend a lot of time after only 16 moves, but he stands firm and finds a line that allows him to enter a holdable endgame.

Movsesian- Navara agreed to a draw in a not so emotional game. Michele’s possition seem solid and it seem Ivanchuk’s maneuver didnt’ bother him but the Ukranian GM kept fighting for a win to try to reach the leader of the tournament. Avoiding all the tactics Ivanchuk finally reaches the goal thanks to a series of dubious moves by his oponnent. Vassily is now in second place alone with 3 points.

The Short Onischuk ends in a draw even if the players have fought long lasting game.

Finally Caruana – Gashimov also a draw. The ranking remains unchanged, Paco is one step closer towards the goal.

The I Rapid “ Torneo di Capodanno Reggio Emilia “ was held January 2nd with the participation of strong italian and foreigner players.

The winner was WGM Yulia Kochetkova ( Movsesian’ girlfriend) 2nd place was for FM Andrea Stella a rising young Italian player and 3rd place for Italian women Olympic member IM Olga Zimina all with 6.5 out of 8.

      All rounds at 15
(except the last round that will play at 12 on january 6, 2011)
