Reigning Prince of American Chess is Coming to Pitman

The reigning prince of American chess is coming to Pitman, NJ to compete in the 2nd Annual Greater Pitman Open Chess Championship in August.
Alex Lenderman, who is currently ranked number one on the U.S. Chess Federation’s top under age 21 rating list and 13th overall in the Nation, has accepted an invitation to the tournament, which will be held at the Pitman Manor. Also participating will be GM Michael Rohde and IM Bryan Smith. Smith will be defending his 2008 Pitman Open title.
“We’re really excited to have some of the top players in the country coming to the tournament,” said Stephen Dick, N.J. State Chess Federation board member and two-time organizer of this event. “It’s especially exciting because this year player turnout is expected to double that of last year’s and that alone should intensify the level of competition”.
International Master Alex Lenderman will be conducting a simultaneous exhibition at All the King’s Men Chess Shop on Friday, August 14th at 7:30 PM. A “simul”, as it is often referred to, is a chess exhibition in which one player (commonly a chess master or grandmaster) plays multiple games (often 20 or more) at the same time against other players. All the King’s Men will award $50 to each player for a win and $25 for a draw. The cost to participate is just $20, $15 for All the King’s Men Chess Club Members.
The Greater Pitman Open, scheduled to take place on August 15th, will offer a purse of more than $2,000 in prize money, including a $100 cash bonus for a clear-cut winner. 30 Grand Prix points are also up for grabs.
Other confirmed players include: Masters Dr. Leroy Dubeck and Michael Katz. Likely, but not confirmed players are: IM Dean Ippolito, IM Kirill Kuderinov, FM Boris Privman, FM Thomas Bartel, and Experts Robert Mourning, Sam Barsky, Geoffrey Herman, and Gregory Nolan.
