      Rogule and Sveshnikov win 2016 Latvian Chess Championships

      The 2016 Latvia Chess Championships for men and women were held from 30th April to 6th May in Riga.

      The men’s section was 9-round Swiss with 29 participants and women’s section was 7-round Swiss with 17 players.

      IM Vladimir Sveshnikov won the men’s championship with 7,0 points. IM Nikita Meskovs is second with 6,5 points, and last year champion GM Arturs Neiksans took the bronze with the same score but weaker tie-break.

      In the women’s championship WGM Laura Rogule took the trophy with 5,5 points. This is her 9th national title, an amazing achievement.

      WGM Inguna Erneste is silver with 5 points, and WGM Ilze Berzina is third with 4,5 points. Latvian Minister for Finance WGM Dana Reizniece-Ozola is fourth also with 4,5 points.
