First chess tournament for HCM City students

      4:50 PM, 24/04/2011

(VOV) – 200 students from vocational schools, colleges, and universities in Ho Chi Minh City took part in a chess tournament that opened at Van Lang University on April 23.

The two-day HCM City Students Chess tournament, held by the city’s Students Association, included both professional and amateur competitions following the Swiss system (seven or nine matches) under the current Chess Rules of the Committee for Physical Training and Sports.

Contestants had a chance to meet with young grandmaster Le Quang Liem, who won the well-known Aeroflot Open tournament twice.

The event, the first of its kind, is planned to be held annually for chess fans to promote chess among students.
