      About Us

      SMART Chess is an organization of chess educators from the east valley of the greater Phoenix area. Our mission is to promote the educational and competitive benefits of chess for both children and adults. We host tournaments, camps and clinics as well as provide information to the chess community.

      Mission Statement

      I. To be educational and instructional, to broaden and develop chess as art and recreation and as a significant element of culture in Maricopa County, Arizona.

      II. To cooperate with schools and other groups and institutions in teaching chess, conducting tournaments and other activities.

        I am very impressed by the interview June issue chess life, with Sergi Karjakin telling us about how he thought it was so important to bring the best and brightest kids together for chess lessons and for chess games.

        All the countries are going to have to emulate that example if we are to get youngsters to make the top ten in the world.

        I want to extend a big thank you to the SMART people of Phoenix. Great move. I hope other cities do the same and then we need a very strong national movement to bring together the brightest from around the entire USA.
