In a proud moment for India, 11-year-old chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa defeated Paraguayan Grand Master Axel Bachmann at the Isle of Man Chess Championship.

The short match left the Paraguayan Grand Master stunned as it took Praggnanandhaa just 18 moves to defeat him at the Masters’ section of the chess championship.

R Praggnanandhaa belongs to Tamil Nadu and is coached by former Olympian RB Ramesh.

He is the youngest ever International Master (IM) in the world and achieved this feat at just the age of 11, earlier this year.

The young International Master displayed a clinical exhibition on October 9 and in a swift attack with his black pieces, compelled one of the best players in the American continent to resign after just 18 moves.

Before defeating Bachmann, Praggnanandhaa had lost three of his four games in the tournament, but he did not give up hope and took on Bachman for the fourth game.

In the last game, Praggnanandhaa showed just why he the youngest IM and showed a level of chess that was class -apart.

Praggnanandhaa dismantled his opposition’s pieces in a sequence of nine top-notch aesthetic moves, which started with the 10th move.

The moves were so strong and well thought of, that they would have made any chess legend in the history of the game proud of the youngster.

The Isle of Man chess championships is considered one of the toughest Chess Open tournaments in the world. The 2016 championship was later won by Fabiano Caruana of USA with 7.5 points in nine games.
