      Sahaj earns maiden GM norm
      STAFF WRITER 15:54 HRS IST

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) Former World Under-10 champion Sahaj Grover has earned his maiden Grandmaster-norm after his brilliant performance in the just-concluded Kolkata International Open chess tournament.

The 14-year-old Delhi lad played as many as eight grandmasters in the first eight rounds of the event and scored 4.5 points against them in the tough field besides fighting it out hard in the ninth round against International Master Sriram Jha, the qualifier of the World Cup to be played in Russia later this year.

“I was in a better position but my focus was too much on the GM norm which I thought was very important for me at this stage,” Sahaj told PTI.

Sponsored by the Sun-Group, Sahaj’s biggest catch in the event was Grandmaster Gadir Guesinov of Azerbaijan with ELO rating of 2667.

I fail to see how a 10 year old can play like a grandmaster. Sorry, it all sounds fake to me.

Grandmaster has been inflated. New GMS are more like FM before. About 2350 USCF in strength.

It says he’s 14 years old, not 10.
