      2008 Wimbledon Prediction

      tennis, Wimbledon

This is a very tough year to predict the winners of Wimbledon. There is really no clear favorite on either side.

Federer is vulnerable this year. He came off an embarrassing loss to Nadal at the French final. Novak Djokovic improved quite a bit and so does Nadal on grass. If Djokovic can beat Safin in the second round, he should reach the semi-final to face Federer.

In the bottom draw, my prediction is Roddick will face Nadal in the semi-final. Nadal is quite formidable on grass now. Roddick lost two great coaches in Gilbert and Connors. If he can stay focus for an entire two weeks, he can beat Nadal.

My prediction is Djokovic over Federer and Roddick over Nadal in the semi-finals. Then Djokovic in 4 sets over Roddick in the final. This is a long shot but I would like to see something wild this year.

On the women’s side, even though Ana Ivanovic is now the #1 player in the world and the #1 seed in Wimbledon, she will have a tough time winning this event. I think she can make it to the semi-final but will lose to Serena Williams.

In the bottom draw, my pick is Sharapova – Venus Williams in the semi-final. Both Sharapova and Venus want to redeem themselves after a disastrous French Open. So does Serena. The interesting fact is none of the top ladies have played much on grass this year so anything can happen, especially in the early rounds.

My prediction is Serena Williams over Ivanovic and Sharapova over Venus in the semi-finals. However, Sharapova will run out of steam against Serena in the final.

That’s a bold prediction. I would go with Federer and Ivanovic.

I think Roddick is history. I doubt he will ever make it to the top again.

Federer over Nadal and V.Williams over S.Williams, but Susan’s picks are certainly a possibility. How fast is your serve, Susan?

Call it the Fed Cup on the men’s side. I like the Williams sisters as a doubles team but in singles they flop. The American announcers praised Serena’s French at Roland Garros. I hope they say the same about her English at Wimbledon.

        Federer, until proven otherwise,
has to be the favorite. Nadal
showed me alot by taking Fed to 5
        sets in last year’s final.

Venus has won Wimbledon 4 times and
has to be among the favorites, as
are Sharapova, Ivanovic, Serena, and very few others.
