      2012 Groningen Chess Festival

      Chess tournament, Groningen, Holland

      The 2012 Groningen Chess Festival will be held from 21st December up to and including 30th December, 2012, at the Sportcentrum Rijksuniversiteit & Hanzehogeschool, Blauwborgje 16, 9747 AC Groningen.

      Open A (>2000)
      Prize fund: € 6000,-
      Entry fee: € 60,-
      Players >2400 and I(G)M don’t have to pay the entry fee.

      Currently top rated players are Zaven Andriasyan, Andrey Deviatkin, Sabino Brunello, Vasif Durarbeyli and Robin van Kampen.

      Open B (>1700-<2100 strong="strong">
      Prize fund: € 1500,-
      Entry fee: € 60,-

      Open C (<1800 strong="strong">
      Prize fund: € 750,-
      Entry fee: € 60,-

      In case of insufficient participation the organisation reserves the right to merge Group B and C.

      A bye (half a point) is possible for participants of Open B and Open C in round 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Mention this on the entry form under ‘questions’.

      The above groups will play a 9 round Swiss tournament.

      december 26 13.00 – 18.00 hrs round 5
      december 27 13.00 – 18.00 hrs round 6
      december 28 13.00 – 18.00 hrs round 7
      december 29 13.00 – 18.00 hrs round 8
      december 30 11.00 – 16.00 hrs round 9
      december 30 ± 17.00 hrs prize giving.
       

      Time control: 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes for the remainder of the game + an increment of 30 seconds per move from move 1.

      Groningen Compact (dec. 26 up to and including dec. 30) 
      Five round Swiss tournament, split up according to playing strength in groups of about 40 players.
      First prize for each group: € 200,-; prize fund per group: € 600,-
      Entry fee: € 35,-
      Time control: 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes for the remainder of the game + an increment of 30 seconds per move from move 1.
      A bye (half a point) is only possible after registration by telephone on december 26.
