      4th International Chess Tournament Isthmia 2014

      The Korinthia Chess Academy “Argonaftis” is organizing the 4th International Chess Tournament Isthmia 2014 on 18-25th August at the Alkyon Hotel in Vrachati, Korinthia, Greece.

      Prefecture of Peloponnisos, Municipality of Velo Vocha, Municipality of Korinth and Regional Unity of Korinthia are supporting the event.

      The tournament will be held over 9 rounds of Swiss system in three groups: Open A for players rated over 2000 FIDE, Open B for U1900 players and Open C for unrated players. Players rated 1900 – 2000 may select in which group they will participate. The organizers reserve the right to merge the three groups, depending on the number of participants.

      Last year winner of Open A was GM Hristos Banikas.

      Cups will be awarded to the top three winners of the Group A and the first winners of the other Groups of the general standings. Medals will be awarded to the top 6 winners of the Group A, top 3 winners of the other Groups and to the winners of special categories.

      The total prize fund is 6100 EUR. Top prizes in Open A are EUR 2200, 1000, 600, 400, 300, 200 etc.

      There will also be side events: rated blitz tournament, simultaneous exhibition and excursion to archaeological sites of Ancient Greece.

      Hotel Alkyon is offering extremely affordable accommodation packages. Details in the tournament regulations on the official website.
