We were using the word “combination” for such set of moves involving sacrifice.However I have not come across that word for years.Has it been obsolete? Do we now simply call it “tactic”.

Not quite 5 seconds for me- took me about 10-15 seconds to spot it. The rook at f8 is trying to do too much by guarding both f7 and g8.

Yeesh, I didn’t solve this one at all. It shows you (or at least it showed me) again the practical value of trying a different move order if your initial idea doesn’t work. Of course I looked at Nf7+ and noticed to my dismay that deflecting the Rook (f8) away from the back rank wasn’t enough to crash through. The pattern in the solution should be recognizable enough without having to rely on such a ponderous, plodding, mechanical thought process as “try a different move order”; but when you can’t play chess the way you should, you have to make use of what practical advice you can.
Incidentally I think this game might’ve been an important game at the time in the opening theory of the Benoni Defense.

Since your idea was to deflect the R at f8 you should have tried to deflect it to g8.Your first idea would have worked without R at a8.
