      86th FIDE Congress in Abu Dhabi, UAE – Executive Board

      After the anthems of UAE and FIDE, President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov opened the meeting of the Executive Board, welcomed the delegates and guests, and thanked the UAE Chess Federation for the warm hospitality. The President gave his report of activities.

      FIDE Treasurer Adrian Siegel gave his financial report and presented the budget for 2016, which was approved.

      The Verification Commission presented its report and the Board elected Tshepo Sitale (Botswana) as an observer until the 2016 General Assembly.

      The Board approved applications of new member federations: Eritrea, Kosovo, Liberia and Nauru. Any mention of Kosovo will be followed with an asterisk and the note refering to UN Resolution 1244, without prejudice of status.

      FIDE Executive Director Nigel Freeman informed that Chess South Africa paid the arbiters and its dues and that no further action will be taken.

      The Commissions reports were discussed and approved. Notable amongst them were the reports of the Anti-Cheating Committee, Online Commission, Qualification Commission, Arbiters’ Commission and Trainers’ Commission. The reports will be posted soon on the FIDE website.

      The Ethics Commission reported on the decisions and rulings made in the past year, including the two cases that related to the 2014 FIDE elections.

      In the one case the complaint of the Philippines and Kenya Chess Federations against Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was dismissed.

      In the other case the complaint of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov against Ignatius Leong and Garry Kasparov was upheld and they were found guilty. The process to impose a suitable sanction will be completed in next two months.

      The Board discussed the future events from the FIDE Calendar. The World Youth U-16 Chess Olympiad 2017 was awarded to India. The bidding was opened for the 88th FIDE Congress 2017.

      AGON presented the report about its activities, with a special attention given to the World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2015 in Berlin, the 2016 Candidates and World Championship Match.

      At the beginning of the afternoon session the President of UAE Chess Federation Mr.Saeed Al Megbali greeted the Board and the guests. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov nominated Mr.Al Megbali for the post of FIDE Development Director, and Mr.Al Megbali accepted the position.

      The President of Russian Chess Federation Mr.Andrei Filatov suggested that Kirsan Ilyumzhinov should run for the Presidency of FIFA. Mr.Ilyumzhinov advised that he was thinking about it and elaborated his position.

      After the conclusion of the Board, the FIDE leadership met with the representatives of government of South Korea and the leadership of the Korea Chess Federation to discuss various projects of mutual interest.
