      Bacrot wins 10th Open International of Balagne

      A tournament of 9 rounds featuring top 16 players qualifying for a cup.

      Some surprises, good performance by young Corsican players.


      The champion of Corsica Michael Massoni took a draw against Richard Rapport, after a beautiful domination. Cyril Corsican Humeau wa
      s very solid against Laurent Fressinet. Nice performance for the young Franck Gertosio by beating Dmitry Svetushkin.


      What final. A suspense … Etienne Bacrot wins, with blacks in the first leg, playing with staggering speed, and putting tremendous pressure on Laurent Fressinet.

       Laurent Fressinet did not admit defeat. This was what he did with great technical mastery in the second part. Players must play the shots with 2 blitz 3′2“. 

      He lead and therefore, with its two consecutive victories, seemed untouchable. Bacrot was in great shape and managed to equalize. It must pass the test of sudden death. Etienne Bacrot won the toss and chosen whites with 5 minutes and a must win, Laurent Fressinet will only have 4 minutes, but has draw odd.

       The game was breathtaking. Laurent Fressinet equalized but having less time must play fast. Etienne Bacrot had two more pins when Laurent falls Fressinet time .. A great show which held spellbound 200 spectators. 

      Etienne Bacrot finally won. It was a great way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this great event in Calvi.
