Are you serious? School asks kids to leave “celebratory” clothing at home

      Weird News

School asks kids to leave “celebratory” clothing at home

Newton schools are asking parents to have their kids leave so-called “celebratory” clothing at home. School officials say this is becoming a trend at Oak Hill and other Newton middle schools. They say it leads to other kids feeling excluded and reminded they were not included in the festivities.

      Source: http://www.myfoxboston.com

This is similar to the concept that there should be no trophies to the winners and everyone should just get medals as many organizers started to do. Should all kids get the same grades no matter if they work hard or not because kids with lower grades may feel bad? Should everyone have the same level of wealth no matter how many hours they put in because it is the fair thing to do? What is your take?

Some people are just not happy unless they can ruin everybody else’s fun.

Socialism works. It’s the best system. Just ask Obama.

Its obviously ridiculous. Kids that excell should be lauded. The only poeple I can image who object tothat are parents who don’t work it. And they’re probably the only ones who object….because it’s not a reflection on the poor child..its a reflection on them…and they don’t like it.
Rewarding excellence is always a good thing.

But Susan, this isn’t about trophies or things that are earned, but rather about merchandise given out at birthday parties. Why should kids get “commemorative” shirts at a birthday party, anyway? That’s the part that offends me the most: these ridiculous, indulgent, incredibly expensive parties that teach children all of the wrong messages.

The point of wearing these shirts on the following Monday is precisely to make other kids feel excluded. I don’t blame the kids, but I do think the parents should take a look at themselves.

i’ll tell you a story about my son Sam. When he was in grade 2 I got a call from his school..the “HAD ” to meet me asap..it was an emergency.Of course I was concerned so I went straight away. . I found myself n a room with two old fuddy duddies…who kept trying to convince me thst Ssm mentally retarded. I thought to mysef..”Well I know Sam..he’s nothing of the sort”
Si fir “Proof!” they offered me his handwritten essay on butterflies. It was all spelled wrong and had lots of crazy formations…then it dawned on me.
Sam was drawing words…he was not spelling em out phonetically..he was actually drawing words!!!!!!! Once I told those two stupid teachers what I thought..we never had a problem with Sam again.
Personally I thought he was brillinat and I’m very proud of him.

I guess the above anonymous poster would like to give up their social security, medicare, public libraries, public parks, fire departments and all the other EVILS that come with socialism. Funny that the US is such a wealthy country yet has 1 in 6 below the poverty line. Maybe uncontrolled capitalism is just as bad as going too far in the other direction.

And let’s face it, the ONLY reason we play chess is to win trophies so we can shove them into other people’s faces to show how much better we are than them. lol

And btw, since when is trying to not ruin children’s confidence and make them feel inferior the same as adults getting the same pay for not working? Pretty ridiculous analogy to draw, I think.

The original article doesn’t say anything about trophies or anything you earn.

Wow, there is no reason to work harder than anyone else if you don’t receive any benefit or reward for it,
whether it be monetary, t-shirt, a trophy, pride, love or even joy!

Anyone ever read: Harisson Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. written in 1961?

People who worked hard and achieved in that society were limited by authorities and even the law. Pretty sure I don’t want to live in that society.

I think winners should be rewarded for their efforts. I don’t like the idea of medals for everyone. As for “Celebratory” clothing, lol, I don’t think a School should worry about such a trivial and superficial thing. Anyone with intelligence knows a persons true value should be measured on the depth and quality of their character not on the depth and quality of their wallets! I don’t think it matters what clothes a person wears, just be a good person!

Unfortunately, the wealth example just doesn’t work. Those who rake in the most rarely do the most work. Those of us who work hard often get paid the least.

In certain areas of the world, some schools have uniforms. I like the idea.

Your parents’ wealth should not enter the picture when you are at school, and ideally, never.
