Teenage cricket lover out of the game after breaking ankle – playing CHESS
      12:00pm Friday 7th June 2013 in News

      By Anna Roberts
Teenage cricket lover Doug Porter broke his ankle – playing chess.

The 17-year-old, from Ditchling, was on holiday in Wales when he picked up the freak injury.

BHASVIC student Doug has been unable to play cricket since being hurt when a game of chess got heated.

He explained: “I was on holiday and I was playing chess against my brother. I went to rugby tackle him and I lost.”

His teammates at Ditchling Cricket Club joked the accident showed how dangerous other pastimes could be.

A spokesman for the club said: “We have a proud record of looking after the health and safety of the younger players but as a precautionary measure the 1976 copy of snakes and ladders has been removed from the conservatory area.

“Further sanctions introduced in the wake of this injury include the creation of a safe area by the cricket nets where members can play paper, scissor, stone without hurting themselves.”
